Doula Support Through Your Employer Benefits
If your employer offers benefits that cover doula support, Congratulations!
We’re thrilled that more people are gaining access to doula care through programs like Carrot Fertility, Progyny, and Maven. While these benefits programs are relatively new, doula support has been around for centuries, providing care, guidance, and reassurance to parents. Whether having a doula has long been part of your vision or you’re just beginning to explore what doula care entails, we’re here to help you understand the unique role doulas play and how to maximize your benefits while getting the support you deserve.
Fertility Benefits Providers
Many employers now offer fertility benefits in addition to traditional health insurance. Programs like Carrot Fertility, Progyny, and Maven function similarly to out-of-network reimbursements and can cover services such as IUI, IVF, egg and sperm freezing, surrogacy, adoption, and doula support. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend reaching out to your company’s HR representative or ERG officer to confirm what benefits you’re eligible for.

Carrot Fertility
Carrot Fertility helps individuals and families access fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum support. They cover a variety of services including birth doulas, daytime postpartum doulas, and overnight postpartum doulas. Bliss Postpartum Services is eligible for reimbursement through Carrot and have direct experience supporting Carrot families.

Progyny
​Progyny is another employer-sponsored fertility and family-building benefit. Some plans include coverage for doula services during pregnancy or postpartum. Most doulas who qualify for Carrot Fertility also qualify for reimbursement through Progyny.

Maven
Maven is the newest provider of employer-sponsored fertility and family-building benefits. They offer services supporting reproductive health, including doula support reimbursed through the Maven Wallet.
What Is a Doula?
With fertility benefits becoming more common, more people are learning about doulas, and we love it! Whether you’ve always wanted a doula by your side or are just discovering this form of support, here’s what you need to know about how doulas help families during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Birth Doulas
A birth doula provides physical, emotional, informational, and sometimes spiritual support during pregnancy, labor, and birth. Most birth doula packages include:

2–4 prenatal sessions to prepare for birth and postpartum

Guidance on labor options, comfort measures, and evidence-based practices

Postpartum recovery planning and newborn feeding support

Connection to resources and healthcare providers
Your doula is on call 24/7 starting around 37–38 weeks and supports you through labor, delivery, and the first 1–2 hours postpartum. Postpartum visits (1–2, typically 2–4 hours each) help you process your birth, navigate early feeding, support physical recovery, and build confidence in caring for your newborn.
Birth doulas work collaboratively with partners and loved ones—they don’t replace them but support your entire birth team. Packages are generally flat-fee, covering all on-call support, and doulas are trained to assist with cesarean births as well.

Daytime Postpartum Doulas
Daytime postpartum doulas offer support in the first weeks after birth, focusing on:

Parent physical and emotional recovery

Infant feeding and newborn care

Parental rest and bonding

Light household tasks (laundry, meal prep, bottle/pump cleaning)
They typically work 3–4 hour sessions, 2–3 days per week. If you need more coverage, multiple doulas can collaborate seamlessly to ensure continuity of care.

Overnight Postpartum Doulas
Overnight postpartum doulas support parents during nighttime hours, helping with:

Overnight infant feeding and soothing

Protected sleep for parents

Newborn care and sleep guidance
Overnight doulas typically work 8-10 hour shifts, 2–3 nights per week. Multiple doulas can cover additional nights if needed, always coordinating to provide seamless care.
How Benefit Reimbursement Works

Clarify Coverage
Reach out to your HR or ERG officer to understand your plan and the doula services covered. -
Contact Bliss Doula Collective & Choose Your Doula
Submit an intake form, and we’ll match you with the doula eligible for your benefits and can schedule complimentary Consultation. -
Verify Doula Eligibility
Your doula will confirm eligibility with your benefits provider. Approval times vary, but if your doula has been reimbursed before, approval is likely. -
Compensate Your Doula & Get Reimbursed
Once approved, you pay your doula deposit and remaining fees. After services are completed, your doula submits an invoice to you so you can send it to your provider for reimbursement.
